Now quarried, now filed, now sculpted and now polished!\u201d Is that what you mean?\u2019 The Master said, \u2018Ci, Now we can talk poetry together! I tell you one thing and you understand the next.\u2019<br \/>\n\u5b50\u8ca2\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u8ca7\u800c\u7121\u8ac2\uff0c\u5bcc\u800c\u7121\u9a55\uff0c\u4f55\u5982\uff1f\u300d\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u53ef\u4e5f\u3002\u672a\u82e5\u8ca7\u800c\u6a02\uff0c\u5bcc\u800c\u597d\u79ae\u8005\u4e5f\u3002\u300d\u5b50\u8ca2\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u300a\u8a69\u300b\u4e91\uff1a\u300e\u5982\u5207\u5982\u78cb\uff0c\u5982\u7422\u5982\u78e8\u3002\u300f\u5176\u65af\u4e4b\u8b02\u8207\uff1f\u300d\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u8cdc\u4e5f\uff0c\u59cb\u53ef\u8207\u8a00\u8a69\u5df2\u77e3\uff01\u544a\u8af8\u5f80\u800c\u77e5\u4f86\u8005\u3002\u300d (\u5b78\u800c, 1.15)<\/li>\n<li>The Master said, \"To be in poverty without resenting it is difficult. To be in affluence without being arrogrant is easy.\"<br \/>\n\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u8ca7\u800c\u7121\u6028\u96e3\uff0c\u5bcc\u800c\u7121\u9a55\u6613\u3002\u300d(\u61b2\u554f, 14,10)<\/li>\n<li>The Master said, 'A noble man is not a vessel.'<br \/>\n\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u541b\u5b50\u4e0d\u5668\u3002\u300d (\u70ba\u653f, 2.12)<\/li>\n<li>The Master spoke of Zi Jian: \"He is a noble man indeed! ...\"<br \/>\n\u5b50\u8b02\u5b50\u8ce4\uff0c\u300c\u541b\u5b50\u54c9\u82e5\u4eba\uff01...\uff1f\u300d (\u516c\u51b6\u9577, 5.3)<\/li>\n<li>Zi Gong asked, \u2018What about me?\u2019 The Master said, \u2018You are a vessel.\u2019 \u2018What do you mean, a vessel?\u2019 said Zi Gong. The Master said, \u2018You are a wonderful vessel made of jade.'<br \/>\n\u5b50\u8ca2\u554f\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u8cdc\u4e5f\u4f55\u5982\uff1f\u300d\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u5973\u5668\u4e5f\u3002\u300d\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u4f55\u5668\u4e5f\uff1f\u300d\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u745a\u7489\u4e5f\u3002\u300d (\u516c\u51b6\u9577, 5.4)<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/lawlec.korea.ac.kr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/zigong-vessel-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1673\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/zigong-vessel-300x209.jpg\" alt=\"zigong-vessel\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Zi Gong said, \"Suppose you have a beautiful jade like this. Will you put it in a safe and keep it? Or will you seek a buyer offering a good price and sell it?\" The Master said, \"I will sell it! I will sell it! I am just waiting for the buyer.\" \u5b50\u8ca2\u66f0\uff1a\u201c\u6709\u7f8e\u7389\u65bc\u65af\uff0c\u97de\u5335\u800c\u85cf\u8af8\uff1f\u6c42\u5584\u8cc8\u800c\u6cbd\u8af8\uff1f\u201d\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u201c\u6cbd\u4e4b\u54c9\uff01\u6cbd\u4e4b\u54c9\uff01\u6211\u5f85\u8cc8\u8005\u4e5f\u3002\u201d (\u5b50\u7f55 9.13) [Also see Li Ji, \u8058\u7fa9 12]<\/li>\n<li>Zi Gong said, \u2018I do not want people to aggrandize me. I also want to avoid aggrandizing people.\u2019 The Master said, \u2018Ci, this is beyond your reach.\u2019<br \/>\n\u5b50\u8ca2\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u6211\u4e0d\u6b32\u4eba\u4e4b\u52a0\u8af8\u6211\u4e5f\uff0c\u543e\u4ea6\u6b32\u7121\u52a0\u8af8\u4eba\u3002\u300d\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u8cdc\u4e5f\uff0c\u975e\u723e\u6240\u53ca\u4e5f\u3002\u300d (\u516c\u51b6\u9577, 5.12)<\/li>\n<li>The Chief Counsellor asked Zi Gong, \"Is your Master a Saint? How come he has so many talents?\" Zi Gong said, \"The Heaven originally sent him as a Great Saint. He has many talents as well.\" The Master heard this and said, \"The Chief Counsellor knows me. When I was young, I was lowly. That's why I am good at many mundane jobs. Is a noble man good at many things? No, he is not.\"\u00a0 (\u5b50\u7f55 9.6)<\/li>\n<li>Lo said, \"The Master told once, 'I do not have an employment. That\u2019s why I am good at many things.' \" (\u5b50\u7f55 9.7)<\/li>\n<li>Ji Zi Cheng said, 'It suffices for a noble man to have substance. What use do you have for sophisticated erudition?' Zi Gong said, 'Alas, what you say about a noble man is revealing of you (You open your mouth and reveal what you are made of). Sophiticated erudition is not different from substance. Substance is not different from sophisticated erudition. Tiger or leopard hide stripped of hair is not different from dog or lamb hide stripped of hair.'<br \/>\n\u68d8\u5b50\u6210\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u541b\u5b50\u8cea\u800c\u5df2\u77e3\uff0c\u4f55\u4ee5\u6587\u70ba\uff1f\u300d\u5b50\u8ca2\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u60dc\u4e4e\uff01\u592b\u5b50\u4e4b\u8aaa\uff0c\u541b\u5b50\u4e5f\u3002\u99df\u4e0d\u53ca\u820c\u3002\u6587\u7336\u8cea\u4e5f\uff0c\u8cea\u7336\u6587\u4e5f\u3002\u864e\u8c79\u4e4b\u979f\uff0c\u7336\u72ac\u7f8a\u4e4b\u979f\u3002\u300d (\u984f\u6df5, 12.8)<\/li>\n<li>Zi Gong asked about noble man. The Master said, \u2018He who acts first and whose words follow afterwards.\u2019<br \/>\n\u5b50\u8ca2\u554f\u541b\u5b50\u3002\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u5148\u884c\u5176\u8a00\uff0c\u800c\u5f8c\u5f9e\u4e4b\u3002\u300d (\u70ba\u653f, 2.13)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Master said, \"Those who followed me to Chen and Cai have all left my school now.\"<br \/>\n\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u5f9e\u6211\u65bc\u9673\u3001\u8521\u8005\uff0c\u7686\u4e0d\u53ca\u9580\u4e5f\u3002\u300d(\u5148\u9032 11.2)<\/li>\n<li>As for virtuous conduct, Yan Yuan, Min Zi Qian, Ran Bo Niu and Zhong Gong excelled. In speech, Zai Wo and Zi Gong excelled. In politics, Ran You and Ji Lu excelled. In erudition, Zi You and Zi Xia excelled.<br \/>\n\u5fb7\u884c\uff1a\u984f\u6df5\uff0c\u9594\u5b50\u9a2b\uff0c\u5189\u4f2f\u725b\uff0c\u4ef2\u5f13\u3002\u8a00\u8a9e\uff1a\u5bb0\u6211\uff0c\u5b50\u8ca2\u3002\u653f\u4e8b\uff1a\u5189\u6709\uff0c\u5b63\u8def\u3002\u6587\u5b78\uff1a\u5b50\u6e38\uff0c\u5b50\u590f\u3002(\u5148\u9032 11.3)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0(Zai Wo and Zi Gong were mostly engaged in eloquent speech and thought that they were engaged in good conduct. Ran Niu, Min Zi and Yan Yuan would virtuously carry out good words.) \u5bb0\u6211\u3001\u5b50\u8ca2 \u5584\u70ba\u8aaa\u8fad\uff0c\u5189\u725b\u3001\u9594\u5b50\u3001\u984f\u6df5 \u5584\u8a00\u5fb7\u884c\u3002 \u300a\u5b5f\u5b50\u00b7\u516c\u5b6b\u4e11\u4e0a\u300b<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Master spoke to Zi Gong, \"Between you and Hui, who is ahead of whom?\" Zi Gong replied, \"How dare I hope to catch up with Hui? When Hui hears one thing, he understands ten. When I hear one thing, I can only understand two.\" The Master said, \"Surely, you are not like him! I agree with you, you are not like him.\"<br \/>\n\u5b50\u8b02\u5b50\u8ca2\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u5973\u8207\u56de\u4e5f\u5b70\u6108\uff1f\u300d\u5c0d\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u8cdc\u4e5f\u4f55\u6562\u671b\u56de\u3002\u56de\u4e5f\u805e\u4e00\u4ee5\u77e5\u5341\uff0c\u8cdc\u4e5f\u805e\u4e00\u4ee5\u77e5\u4e8c\u3002\u300d\u5b50\u66f0\uff1a\u300c\u5f17\u5982\u4e5f\uff01\u543e\u8207\u5973\u5f17\u5982\u4e5f\u3002\u300d (\u516c\u51b6\u9577, 5.9)<\/li>\n<li>Zi Gong asked, \"Between Shi (Zi Zhang) and Shang (Zi Xia), who has more talent?\" The Master said, \"Shi goes too far and Shang falls short.\" \"Shi is better, then?\" said Zi Gong.
